From Misfortune to Wisdom

One who causes others misfortune also teaches them wisdom. ~ An African proverb As we know, misfortune is a difficult experience. Betrayal, lies, deceit are all hurtful. When we dwell on the pain of misfortune itself, it will bring us down. When we decide to keep our heads up and learn from the misfortune, it brings us wisdom! Those that cause us misfortune aren't well liked, but while we may swear off never dealing with them, we can also be thankful for the lesson learned, and the wisdom gained with after dealing with them!

Headstrong and Fools

“A headstrong man and a fool may wear the same cap.” A Danish Proverb   Have you ever had to deal with a headstrong person? Sometimes it's good to be headstrong especially when standing up for good morals, but it's certainly not good to be headstrong in rejecting others because they are different. Be careful that in your moments of being headstrong, that you aren't being a fool! A headstrong person can be foolish when they are unyielding and impose their opinions on others. They are wise in their own mind which makes them foolish. This proverb points out the similarity between headstrong people and fools. Have a positively cooperative day!

Words are Powerful

A slip of the foot may soon be recovered, but that of the tongue perhaps never. - A Danish Proverb   Have you ever said something you wish you could take back? This proverb encourages us to watch what we say because we can never take back hurtful words once they are said. Our words are important and powerful. They can encourage or tear down. The Holy Bible also says in Proverbs 18:21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue! Let use our words to help instead of cause a problem that one may not recover from! Have a pleasant day of wonderfully spoken words!

Experience and Theory

“It's better to walk thousands of miles  than to read thousands of books.” A Chinese Proverb  Would you rather see the wonders of the world, or just read about it on social media posts? This proverb means it is more beneficial to experience life than to merely read about it. When we experience things, it gives us more knowledge about things than reading about it. We gain our own perspective on subjects when we've experienced it for ourselves. We can all agree physically climbing a mountain is a lot different than reading about it! Have a wonderful day experiencing life!

Bridges or Dams

In the moment of crisis, the wise build bridges, and the foolish build dams. ~ Nigerian proverb How do you respond in a time of crisis? Do you reach out or shut people out? This proverb encourages us to connect with each other instead of excluding one another. A bridge allows people to communicate, create communities and move freely to reach help. A dam blocks communication, it stops anything from going in or out. In a time of crisis, we need help. A bridge allows us to get help, whereas a dam would block help, and cause destruction if it breaks. Let's continue to build bridges and make it easier to help one another instead of dams to block others out. Have a great bridge building day!

Wealth, Knowledge, or Both!

Wealth, if you use it, comes to an end; learning, if you use it, increases. - A Swahili proverb  Would you rather have money or knowledge? This Swahilian proverb explains that it is wiser to increase in knowledge because knowledge will not run out. It is a poor choice to only focus on increasing wealth because it will eventually run out, decrease in value or be stolen! Knowledge will never decrease in value or end up stolen. Acquiring knowledge has the possibility of making you wealthy! Have an easy learning day!

Facts or Accidents

“If you close your eyes to facts, you will learn through accidents.” -An African Proverb  Are you willing to accept facts even if they are disappointing? Sometimes the truth is difficult to accept so sometimes we willingly ignore it. This my friend, is not a wise practice! This proverb teaches us that we should always be aware, research and pay close attention to the facts so we don’t end up missing information which causes us to accidentally make the wrong decisions. Choosing not to be well informed will lead to bad decisions, and that makes us learn the hard way. Have a well informed day!

Small Holes Become Big Holes

“If small holes aren't fixed then big holes will bring hardship.” -A Chinese Proverb  Do you procrastinate to avoid dealing with issues you see as insignificant? Sometimes we overlook the small issues, putting them off until later. This proverb tells us that if smaller problems are not solved over time, they will become more serious and more problematic. Take care of the small issues before it's too late! Have a great productive day!

Well Don't Just Stand There!

A man grows most tired while standing still. -A Chinese Proverb  Do you consider yourself as a couch potato that lacks energy? Being inactive makes us tired, then being tired makes us tired. Sometimes we are put in unavoidable situations where we are inactive, for example, standing in a long line in a store. When we finally walk away from waiting, we are sometimes left with a feeling of being tired because being inactive is tiresome. This proverb warns us about consistently living an inactive lifestyle. Inactivity can lead to health problems including depression. Remember to keep your mind and body active. Staying active is healthy! It does a body good! Have a fun action-packed day!

Are you Building a Windmill Or A Wall?

“When the winds of change blow, some people build walls and others build windmills.” -A Chinese Proverb  How well do you deal with change? It's no secret that life can be difficult and change isn't easy. When change happens we can either build walls by resisting and making the change even more difficult to endure, or we could build windmills and have the winds of change work for us just. While change may be difficult, our attitudes and behavior can determine just how difficult dealing with change will be. Have an easy breezy day!

Speak or Listen

“The fool speaks, the wise man listens.” An Ethiopian Proverb  Have you ever observed someone talking so much that they look like a fool? There is a lot of wisdom gained from listening. We learn so much about the world around us when we are willing to observe, listen and learn. It is of good character to be a good listener. After all, there are no rude nicknames such as Blabbermouth, Motor Mouth, or Chatty Patty for good listeners! Have a wisely wonderful day!

Go Alone or Go Together

If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. -An African Proverb  There is a beauty in doing things alone. It can be quite, you can go at your own pace, and you can have things your way! It can be lovely, however, when you go together joining in with others, you have strength, support and you've multiplied your abilities! Seek out people who provide those great qualities so you can go far together. Have a wonderful day!

Avoid Being a Tragedy!

“If you don't do stupid things you won't end up in tragedy.”  - A Chinese Proverb  This is much like the saying, "Don't poke the bear." This proverb is certainly to the point in saying if we are wise in our life choices, we will have a better chance of reaping the benefits! Don't great results from making stupid decisions. We eventually reap what we sow!   Have a wonderful day!

Live with Truth or Without

“With truth on your side, you can go anywhere; without truth, you can't take a step.”  A Chinese Proverb Do you value honesty even if it isn't something you want to hear? This proverb is about the value of being an honest person. Staying honest will see you through a variety of difficulties and everyday life. Honest, upright people are admired and well trusted. Living without truth means living a lifestyle that is entangled with lies and deception. That type of lifestyle will inhibit your progress in life. Don't dismiss the value of truth! It's a highly valued characteristic! Have a fantastic day!

Knowledge and Wisdom

“Knowledge without wisdom  is like water in the sand.” -A Guinean proverb  Have you ever met a person who is really intelligent, they know a lot of information but are missing wisdom? Maybe they don’t realize when to speak, what to say or how to say it. Maybe they need tact. Knowledge and wisdom make a great team! This proverb points out that knowledge is certainly valuable but without it being coupled with wisdom it’s useless. Have a wise and smart day!
