Have you ever met a person who is really intelligent, they know a lot of information but are missing wisdom? Maybe they don’t realize when to speak, what to say or how to say it. Maybe they need tact. Knowledge and wisdom make a great team! This proverb points out that knowledge is certainly valuable but without it being coupled with wisdom it’s useless. A dam blocks communication, it stops anything from going in or out. In a time of crisis, we need help. A bridge allows us to get help, whereas a dam would block help, and cause destruction if it breaks. This proverb encourages us to watch what we say because we can never take back hurtful words once they are said. Our words are important and powerful. They can encourage or tear down. The Holy Bible also says in Proverbs 18:21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue! Let use our words to help instead of cause a problem that one may not recover from!
